Yes! Every outing is led by a bilingual (French and English) naturalist guide who shares their knowledge about whales, marine species and the ecosystem of the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park. Our guides are passionate people who know how to make science accessible and captivating for all ages — the experience is as educational as it is emotional.
The zodiacs are not equipped with restrooms — the outing lasts about 2.5 hours, so it's best to plan ahead before boarding! Restroom facilities are available at our reception at 31 rue des Pilotes, Les Escoumins. We suggest using them during check-in, before putting on your gear.
Space on board is limited, but you are welcome to bring a bottle of water or a small snack. We recommend avoiding heavy meals before the excursion to prevent discomfort on the water. Shops and restaurants are nearby to grab a bite before or after the cruise.
Our zodiacs carry a maximum of 12 passengers, in addition to the crew. Our kayak excursions are for groups of up to 8, split across 4 double kayaks. These small groups are one of our biggest advantages: everyone has a great view on the zodiac, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the experience stays human-scale. For an even more intimate experience, you can book a private boat or excursion for your group.
Yes, parking is available at 31 rue des Pilotes. Access is easy and free.
Our zodiacs and kayaks depart from the Quai des Pilotes in Les Escoumins. Our reception and boutique are at 31 rue des Pilotes in Les Escoumins, where parking is free. We ask that you arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time for check-in and getting suited up.
Approximately 30 kilometers; the 30-minute trip allows you to visit both destinations.

We leave from Les Escoumins, located directly in the Saguenay—Saint-Laurent Marine Park. This allows us to reach the observation areas more quickly, with less sailing time and more time with whales.
The viewing season extends from May to October. The months of July, August and September generally offer the best conditions, with a greater diversity of species present in the St. Lawrence.
Pets are not allowed on regular cruises. However, they may be accepted on a private booking, depending on the circumstances. If you are traveling with your four-legged companion, contact us in advance so we can find the best solution together.
Seals, porpoises, and various seabirds frequently appear alongside whales.
Several species including the fin whale, humpback whale, beluga whale, and sometimes blue whale thrive in the nutrient-rich waters of the St. Lawrence.
Whales are wild animals and their presence cannot be guaranteed. However, the Saguenay—St. Lawrence Marine Park is one of the best places in the world to observe them, and the observation rate during the season is very high.
On a zodiac in open water, you may feel the motion, especially when the river is rough. If you are prone to seasickness, we advise taking a preventive medication a few hours before departure (available over the counter at pharmacies) and avoiding a large meal just before. Don't hesitate to talk to us: we can suggest the time slots when the river is usually calmest, such as early morning or late-day departures.
For safety reasons, children under 5 are not allowed on regular cruises — even on a parent's lap. However, if you would like to enjoy the experience as a family with very young children, it is possible on a private cruise, where conditions can be adapted to your group. Contact us to discuss it.
Life jackets and emergency communication systems equip ships; crews are trained in maritime safety protocols.
The minimum age is 6 years for our zodiac cruises. Children must be accompanied by an adult and be able to remain seated for the duration of the tour.
No, the kayaking equipment (paddle, spray skirt, wetsuit, life jacket) is provided by Du Fleuve. No previous experience is necessary — our guides give you all the instructions before departure. We suggest wearing clothes that can get wet and bringing a change of clothes for afterwards.
Absolutely, cameras are welcome! Whale encounters often offer wonderful moments to capture. We strongly recommend a waterproof camera or a waterproof pouch, as water spray is frequent on a zodiac. Your phone should be protected as well.
Our zodiacs are open boats, with no roof or fixed sides — that's what makes the experience so immersive and close to the river! To protect you, we provide every passenger with a waterproof flotation suit. We also strongly recommend bringing warm clothing to wear underneath, as the wind on the water can be sharp, even in nice weather.
Pack warm, waterproof clothing, binoculars, cameras, and sunscreen as water temperatures stay cool all year round.
Whales appear throughout the day, although morning and evening departures often offer quieter sea conditions.
Tipping is not required, but it is always greatly appreciated by our guides and captains, who put their whole heart into every outing. If you had a wonderful time on the river, a gesture of generosity is a lovely way to show it — the amount is entirely up to you.

Cancellation is free up to 5 days (120 hours) before departure. If you cancel less than 5 days before departure, no refund is given.
To cancel and receive a 100% refund at any time before departure, cancellation insurance (10% of the booking value) is available when you book.
You must notify us before the cruise if you cancel. If you do not show up without letting us know, there will be no refund. The full policy is described here.
If we cancel for weather or safety reasons, a deferral or a full refund will be offered.
Safety is a priority; cancellations occur during poor conditions with the possibility of being postponed or reimbursed.
